rag & bone

rag & bone was born in 2001 through the shared frustrations of the designers, Marcus Wainwright and Nathan Bogle, not being able to find the type of clothing they wanted to wear. They felt there were also some very fundamental pieces missing from the process behind the product, namely the methods of manufacturing and the fabrics being used.

Initially they were drawn to denim and jeans because they held so many of the values that felt relevant to rag & bone. They believed and always will, that jeans represent history, authenticity and fundamentals. They wanted to fuse these elements with all the clothing we set out to design and to produce collections that reflected the same qualities that they saw in classic work wear.

rag & bones’ manufacturing is based entirely in America and everyone they work with has been sewing clothing for generations and they bring all their history and skill to each individual piece they sew. Their experience is irreplaceable and rag & bone are determined to keep their manufacturing there to utilize and save something that is not only ethically sound but also such a part of American history.

rag & bone feels the only way great changes can start is at a grass roots level and that by observing conscientious practices as much as possible, their footprint will be positive and beneficial to all involved.
